Operation NOMAD - BUSHFIRES

 NOMAD image

Operation NOMAD is the SAPOL response to the threat of bushfires in South Australia. This response is in support of the South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS). Bushfires are a present danger in South Australia. Statistics show that fires can be lit by natural means (e.g. lightning) and also by suspicious, deliberate and reckless means.

It is a fact that use of an angle grinder, welder or using items that cause sparks in certain conditions or discarding a cigarette butt can cause a bushfire. In certain conditions these actions are illegal.

Any bushfire that is lit either deliberately, recklessly or even accidentally can have serious consequences that include loss of life, serious injury and or property damage These events will also be investigated, whether a fire occurs or not and the consequences on any person found guilty can be either an expiation or an indictment for a serious offence.

If anyone witnesses or knows of any person:
·         lighting fires,
·         acting suspiciously
·         using items that cause sparks during a fire ban day or
·         discarding a cigarette butt during the fire danger season.
